The Duchess of York, formerly Miss Sarah Ferguson, is the second daughter of the late Major Ronald Ferguson and his former wife, the late Mrs. Hector Barrantes. The Duchess of York married The Prince Andrew, second son of Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, at Westminster Abbey on 23rd July 1986, at which time His Royal Highness was created The Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.

The Duke and Duchess of York have two daughters, Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York and Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena of York. The Duke and Duchess amicably divorced in 1996.

Following her divorce the Duchess set out on an international career that now spans business, publishing, film and television, public speaking, philanthropy and health advocacy.

The Duchess’s commercial projects have included collaborations with Weight Watchers International, Avon, and Waterford-Wedgwood. She has published 26 books, some of these international bestsellers, in categories raging from healthy lifestyle, history, art, and empowerment, to children’s stories. The Duchess travels extensively as a speaker on topics such as empowerment, values, and philanthropy.

The Duchess’s work in television has included documentaries for Britain’s ITV, BBC-2 and Sky Television. In America the Duchess is a special contributor to NBC’s Today Show. She is an executive producer on the major motion picture “Young Victoria” about the early life of Queen Victoria.

The Duchess is the founder of two charities, Children in Crisis, based in London, and The Sarah Ferguson Foundation based in New York. Both organizations fund established charities helping forgotten children and families around the world. The Duchess also supports a number of health, advocacy, and humanitarian organizations as patron and spokesperson.
