The students will cycle the distance on three stationery bikes in their university gym, over two days, 27th and 29th October, within 19 hours.

A giant map of Britain will be used to mark off the distances covered in each hour and a charity raffle will add to the fun.

The inaugural Charity Awards Dinner, in aid of The Mullany Fund, will take place in The Village Hotel on 24th October at 7.00pm.

The Event is themed “Full Length & Fabulous!” so don your best gown/black tie and join us for an evening of fine dining, entertainment and fund raising.

The evening will comprise of a red carpet champagne reception, 3 course black tie dinner with coffee and entertainment.

On the 18th September 2009 , a team of six will be cycling a 53 mile course, which tours the valleys of Camarthenshire taking in some of South Wales’ finest countryside and coastal views starting and ending in Llanelli.

The Gordon Stokoe Memorial Trust has orgnised this cycle ride with a number of teams cycling for their nominated charities.

Fera Fest is, to quote the organisers, “is a big-ass music and general entertainment festival in July organised by the residents, for the residents and anyone else who wants to join in with the merry-ment!”

The Music Festival is held over the weekend Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July 2009 although there are multiple events over the 1st week of July (events such as a Triathalon, Festival Queen and Sports games will be run around the village for all who wish to take part.)

The week is rounded off by the all day event on the Rugby Field in Ystalyfera. There will be many acts playing 2 days of Music, Entertaiment etc… All in the conveinience of the local pubs and the Main field (Ystalyfera Rugby Club) central to the village, which will feature a main stage for the bands, stalls, a fair ground, food stalls featuring local produce and activities for all the family all day, as well as a beer tent etc…

The Friday will begin at around 1pm in the pub’s. The Saturday will begin from 11am (open)on the main field with bands starting early afternoon. It’s gonna be LOUD but most of all it’s gonna be FUN!!

Michael Meredith, Ben’s uncle, and his good friend Terry Maloney will walk Offas Dyke. It is a 176 mile walk, which will start at Chepstow and finish at Prestatyn. When they have finished the walk they will then cycle back to Morriston hospital. They have set a target time of approximately 8 or 9 days to finish the challenge, averaging 25 to 30 miles a day walking and the bike ride will take approximately 2 days.

A group of Cath and Ben’s friends are organising a sponsored walk along the Swansea coast in aid of the Mullany Fund but also in memory of Cath and Ben and where they loved to be.

The Bath Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK. It is also one of the largest charity fundraisers in the South West, raising over £1.2 million for charity last year alone.  The course itself is fast and flat making it suitable for all abilities – for beginners whose key objective is to complete the course, to more regular long-distance event runners, looking to beat their personal best time.  It covers a two lap 13.1 mile (21.1km) traffic free course straddling both sides of the River Avon. The race starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath. If you would like to find out more about the Bath Half Marathon go to www.runninghigh.co.uk.

Event Organiser Phil Sparrow tells us more:

The reason for these two teams taking part is because Ben had a strong affinity with the Cwmgors club having played junior rugby throughout his teenage years until he went away to join the army. He therefore has many, many friends at the club, both through players that he played with as well as their familes, parents, and officials and friends of the club.

Ben was also an integral part of the Cwmtawe School side that won the Welsh cup at Cardiff Arms Park in 1993, and in fact he scored a try in the final that led to the win. Despite Cwmtawe School having produced numerous famous Welsh international rugby players this was the only side in the history of the school that has won the prestigious Welsh cup. The side was full of Ben’s friends who grew up with him and went to school with him. Many of that side remained friendly with Ben and kept in touch with him, as he did with them, long after they left school. This particular school side was also followed closely at that time by non rugby playing friends and teachers.

It therefore seems entirely fitting that this game should take place between so many of Ben’s friends and people who knew and loved him. This will include many of the crowd I am sure, as they will actually have known Ben and will have enjoyed watching him play on many occasions. The fact that this game will also take place at the ground where Ben had spent so much time playing and training in his youth, and where his parents spent so much time watching him play, makes it even more fitting.

There will be a buffet after the game with all supporters then welcome to stay at the club and enjoy the Wales v Italy international. Cwmgors RFC have also kindly agreed to donate a percentage of the profits for the entire day to the Mullany Fund. A matchday programme will also be produced.

In the evening, there will be live music at the club, with a number of local musicians taking part and entertaining both teams, supporters, and families and a raffle held. All of the local musicians taking part knew Ben to varying degrees and so once again it seems an entirely fitting and an approprite, personal tribute to Ben.

It is hoped that numerous school friends of Ben (non rugby playing, both boys and girls) will come to the game and evening entertainments in the club to help raise funds for the charity and enjoy a fitting tribute and memorial to Ben.

Physiotherapy students and staff from the University of the West of England (UWE) will be taking part in the St David’s Day 10km run in Cardiff on the 1st March 2009 in order to raise funds for the Mullany Fund.

This year the West Glamorgan Division of the British Medical Association is raising funds for The Mullany Fund. Cath and Ben were local young healthcare professionals, committed to using their expertise within the area for the benefits of local patients. We are hoping that friends, business contacts and BMA members will help to make this event memorable and raise a considerable sum of money for the Fund.
