Striking the Right Note for The Mullany Fund
A TALENTED actress and harpist is hoping to provide a cash boost for The Mullany Fund. Bethan Bevan, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, hosted an evening of music and poetry in honour of Ben and Catherine Mullany last night.
Bethan (pictured above) played a number of show tunes, classical melodies and traditional folk songs at the gig — dubbed Hearts and a Harp. The 27-year-old former Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera pupil, who now lives in London, said the Mullany Fund was a cause close to home.
“I went to the same secondary school as Cath, and come from a community where everyone really felt the shockwaves of Ben and Cath’s deaths,” she added.
“I had been thinking about putting on a harp recital for a while, but doing it to raise money for the Mullany Fund gave me extra incentive.”
The award-winning musician, who has also featured in the film Starter for Ten with Scottish actor James McAvoy, was joined by fellow Rada graduates at the famous acting school’s bar. She added: “The evening was a small way of contributing to a charity that will help so many people follow their dreams, and at the same time remember Ben and Cath.”
The Mullany Fund was set up by friends and family of 31-year-old Ben and Cath after they were murdered in Antigua last July. It gives financial help to UK medical students.

"Ben and Catherine leave behind a legacy. They hit the hearts of the nation and the world with such an extraordinary love story."
"I am honoured to support The Mullany Fund, set up to help train new doctors and physiotherapists and keep the dreams of Cath and Ben alive."
