DJ Drums Up Cash For Mullany Fund

A TOP Welsh dance DJ says he hopes his skills have helped a family’s mission to help medical students. Drum’n’bass supremo High Contrast, aka Lincoln Barrett, was one of six acts who were spinning vinyl at a benefit gig for the Mullany Fund.

The night raised thousands for the charity, set up in memory of newlyweds Cath and Ben Mullany. Mr Barrett said: “The needless deaths of Ben and Cath on their honeymoon shocked and saddened the entire country.

“When I was invited to play at a fund-raising event in their memory, I was more than happy to help out.”

The Mullany Fund was set up in memory of trainee physiotherapist Ben and qualified doctor Catherine after the couple were murdered on their honeymoon in Antigua last July.

Family members said the fund would preserve the couple’s memory and help carry on the good work they had started.

So far, more than £33,000 has been raised, and the charity has won the backing of Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and Glamorgan cricket legend Sir Viv Richards.

Saturday’s drum’n’bass fund-raiser took place in Cardiff’s Glo Bar, raising a total of £2,091. As well as a DJ set from High Contrast, performances came from Cool House residents Dave Mills, Matt Joy, Matt Owen and Huey Richards, as well as a live PA set by Inner City Pirates.

Ben and Cath’s family said they were thrilled with how well the night went. A spokesman for the Mullany Fund said: “High Contrast is one of the biggest drum’n’bass acts in the world at the moment. He has remixed tracks for a who’s who of artists as well as having the number one selling drum and bass album.”

“We’re genuinely touched by people’s generosity.”

“We hope the Mullany Fund will inspire others to follow  in Ben and Cath’s footsteps.”
