Pupils’ Boost For The Mullany Fund
PUPILS at the school where tragic groom Ben Mullany attended hope to give the charity set up by his family a hearty boost. Youngsters at Cwmtawe have a number of fund-raising activities planned.
Among them is a sponsored Olympics event, taking place on Monday, which will see pupils competing in a number of sporting events.
All proceeds from the day will go to the Mullany Fund, which gives financial help to UK medical students. It was set up in memory of Ben and Catherine Mullany who were murdered on their honeymoon in Antigua.
Assistant head of year 10 Gemma Morgan said: “Cwmtawe comprehensive holds a charity week every year.
“Pupils decided to make this year’s charity the Mullany Fund, because Ben was a former pupil here. “His death was something that touched us all, and we really want to help with the fund set up in Ben and his wife’s memory.”
Mrs Morgan added the Olympic theme was chosen for one day because 31-yearold Ben was a keen sportsman.
Prior to his death, rugby-mad Ben was training to become a physiotherapist, and had been on work experience with Llanelli Scarlets.
His wife, Catherine, also aged 31, was a qualified doctor. The couple were shot on July 27, following a break-in at the hotel chalet where they were staying.

"Ben and Catherine leave behind a legacy. They hit the hearts of the nation and the world with such an extraordinary love story."
"I am honoured to support The Mullany Fund, set up to help train new doctors and physiotherapists and keep the dreams of Cath and Ben alive."
