Doctors’ Honour For Couple

COLLEAGUES of murdered doctor Catherine Mullany are hoping to raise a large amount for the charity which was set up in her name. The West Glamorgan Division of the British Medical Association is holding its annual fund-raising ball later this month.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to The Mullany Fund — established in memory of Morriston Hospital doctor Catherine and her physiotherapist husband Ben.

Organiser Charlotte Jones said it would be an emotional night for BMA members. She said: “The deaths of Ben and Catherine were so tragic and we felt as a medical community The Mullany Fund would be an excellent cause to support.”

All 170 tickets for the January 24 bash, priced £42.50, have already sold out.

“The support from people wanting to help has been fantastic,” added Mrs Jones.

“We have also had sponsorship for the evening from Harris Brothers Tyres and the Postgraduate Deanery for General Practice in Cardiff.” And funds are hoped to be boosted further with a raffle on the night. Prizes donated by luxury Gower hotel Fairy Hill, The Hair Lounge, Fforestfach, and local artist John Hensley-Davies will all be up for grabs.

More than £35,000 has been raised for The Mullany Fund. It provides financial assistance to UK medical students. Ben and Cath, of Swansea, were shot on the last day of their honeymoon in Antigua in the Caribbean, last July.
