Golfers Hit Mark to Help Charity
GOLFERS swung into action to help keep the dreams alive of a couple killed on honeymoon. The families of physiotherapist Ben Mullany and his doctor wife Catherine set up a charity in their memory to give financial help to medical students.
The kind-hearted gesture touched the hearts of Pontardawe Golf Club members, who decided to hold a fund-raising night for the Mullany Fund.
They raffled off a number of prizes, including lessons with golf pros and a round at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.
Event organiser Norman Hopkins decided to put on the night after a letter from one of Catherine’s aunts. He said: “They asked us whether we could donate a few prizes to raffle, but everyone at the club wanted to do something more than that.”
So, they decided to put on a fund-raising night — complete with raffle and entertainment. “We were only too pleased to help,” added Mr Hopkins. “The Mullany Fund means a lot to people at the club because Ben and Cath were both from the Swansea Valley. One member, Viv Date, donated £200 out of his own pocket to make sure the night reached the £1,000 mark.”

"Ben and Catherine leave behind a legacy. They hit the hearts of the nation and the world with such an extraordinary love story."
"I am honoured to support The Mullany Fund, set up to help train new doctors and physiotherapists and keep the dreams of Cath and Ben alive."
