MEDICS provided a big cash injection for the charity set up in memory of Cath and Ben Mullany.
The British Medical Association (BMA) held its annual charity ball at the Dylan Thomas Centre, with proceeds going to the Mullany Fund. It was set up to carry on the dreams of Morriston Hospital doctor Catherine Mullany and her physio husband Ben, who were killed on their honeymoon.
Around 170 people attended Saturday night’s glitzy ball, which featured a five-course meal, entertainment and a raffle. Prizes up for grabs included a painting by acclaimed local artist John Davies, signed Scarlets and Ospreys jerseys, a signed photo of the Welsh Grand Slam team, a signed photo of the current Arsenal football team and a week’s stay at a villa in Spain. The latter was donated by Mair Williams, whom Dr Mullany was due to begin work with at Skewen’s Tabernacle Surgery.
Organiser Charlotte Jones, of the BMA, said the night had been a massive success. “We haven’t counted up the money yet, but judging by people’s generosity, I would say we have raised a few thousand,” she added.
The night was topped off with music from Arrhythmic, a band comprising local doctors. More than £35,000 has been raised for the Mullany Fund to date.
It provides financial assistance to UK schools of medicine and physiotherapy. Ben and Cath, of Swansea, were shot on the last day of their honeymoon in Antigua, in the Caribbean, last July.

"Ben and Catherine leave behind a legacy. They hit the hearts of the nation and the world with such an extraordinary love story."
"I am honoured to support The Mullany Fund, set up to help train new doctors and physiotherapists and keep the dreams of Cath and Ben alive."
