He said: “Ben was part of the Cwmtawe side that won the Welsh Schools Cup at Cardiff Arms Park in 1993, and he scored a try in the final. He also used to play for Cwmgors too before he went away to join the Army.

“Both teams are looking forward to the match, and it’s been great to get back together for one last game. It’s going to be special.”

As well as being psyched up for the game, Cwmtawe Old Boys XV will look the part, as The Ospreys have donated specially-made jerseys. The blue and yellow kits are all to have Ben’s number, 14, and surname on the back.

Former Cwmgors youth coach Kevin Williams, who is taking charge of the old boys team, is confident his side can grab a surprise victory over the Division Four West team.

“It will be difficult as we are missing Ben, who was our best player,” he said. “He was such a talent on the rugby field. But because this game is in Ben and Cath’s memory and for a great cause there is a real buzz.”

The match takes place at Parc y Werin, Cwmgors, with proceeds from ticket sales being donated to The Mullany Fund.

The fund was set up in memory of trainee physio Ben and his doctor wife Cath, and gives financial assistance to British medical students. Match organiser Phil Sparrow, a former Cwmtawe pupil hoped he day would raise a lot of money for the charity, as well as paying tribute to “two remarkable people”.

He said: “The fact this game will take place at the groundwhere Ben spent so much time playing and training, and where his parents spent so much time watching him play, makes it fitting. There will be a buffet afterwards with supporters welcome to stay and enjoy the Wales v Italy international.”

The game starts at 12.30pm on Saturday, March 14. Tickets are priced at £5.
